As you probably
can guess from the website -- My name is Craig.
I live in Southern California
The
pictures above are a sampling of snaps taken over my lifetime.
I currently keep my hair pretty short, I live the retired life
these days after more than 27 years in the computer industry.
Since I'm old enough to have contributed to the "Millennium
Computer Bug", I chose to retire from normal work in May
of 1999, conveniently BEFORE the start of the millennium..
Well, it's not all as great as that sounds. I'm actually "medically" retired as a result of disabling cervical disc degeneration, the result of a car accident in September of 1978. All of the discs in my cervical spine were crushed during that accident and over the years they have degenerated until they now provide almost no cushioning of the vertebrae bones. I'm on constant medication to help my mobility and pain. I have good and bad days. On the good days, life is great, and I enjoy overseeing home improvement and gardening work around CasaMeALotta. Johnny,
Dylan, and Ron are great friends that live with me and are invaluable to me in the day to day running of things. If I lift anything over five pounds, I risk further severe damage to my already barely functional neck. On the bad days I'm rather crabby and tend to spend a lot of time in bed reading a book rather than dwelling on all the things I can't do.
Though I've
never had a boring day in my life, many friends ask what I do with my
time now that I'm retired. The short answer is that I only do work I
find fun and interesting. I have been doing web design, graphic design,
writing, light gardening, and pet tending, to occupy my time. I can't do anything for very long, as it causes a significant amount of pain, but I take MANY breaks and always get one of the housemates to do any of the lifting.
That's also
my home on the front of the site. We call it CasaMeALotta and I spend a lot of time keeping
it in repair too, as it was built in 1927.
I'm a huge
animal person. I have one Irish Wolfhound (my fourth), One
Newfoundland (Johnny's), One Sulcata Tortoise, and a Yellow Naped Amazon parrot.
Their names in order are Egan, Farley, Sukie,
and Cassidy.
Check out the picture galleries for some snaps of me, us, them, and the house.
